MPI Now Shipping Orders from its New Glass Lining Facility

McWane Plant & Industrial (MPI) today announced that its new glass lining facility in Calera, Alabama, is fully operational, with initial orders of glass-lined ductile iron pipe and fittings now shipping. The state-of-the-art facility brings glass lining in-house for the first time, giving MPI complete quality control over this critical process, while dramatically reducing customer lead times.

Following months of planning, engineering, construction, equipment installation and process development, the facility officially opened in late July for final quality validation. Utilizing the latest glass lining equipment and technology, the plant is now producing and shipping finished product for water and wastewater treatment plants across the country.

“The opening of this facility is an important milestone in the history of our company,” said MPI Pipe and Fittings Product Manager, Cory Humphreys. “It gives us a true competitive advantage in glass-lined products and strengthens our ability to serve as a comprehensive, trusted partner that can meet a wide range of treatment plant needs. Plus, it reinforces our commitment to investing in the capabilities that allow us to better serve our customers.”

Glass lining is a vitreous, inorganic lining fused permanently to the interior of ductile iron pipe, fabricated pipe and fittings through a controlled firing process. The result is a hard, smooth, non-porous surface that resists a wide range of acids, bases, salts and wastewater chemicals – offering long-term protection from chemical attack, abrasion and buildup of grease, sludge, biological growth and mineral deposits. This not only preserves the integrity of the system, but also maintains efficient hydraulic flow throughout its service life.

“By bringing this process in-house, MPI now controls every step of production for our glass-lined products,” stated Humphreys. “This capability allows MPI to ensure exceptional quality, reduce lead times, lower supply chain risk and provide customers with a dependable source for glass-lined piping systems.”

The Calera facility is the latest in a series of investments by MPI to better serve customers across its many product lines, including pipe, fittings, valves and water control gates. To learn more, visit our Glass Lining page.
